Supermarket sales in January rising 2.95% over a year earlier, says Open

SAO PAULO-The supermarkets of the country had real growth of 2,95% in sales in January compared with same period in 2018, reported on Wednesday the association representing the industry, Open. In comparison with December, however, sales fell back about of 22%. " We know that the consumption will be gradual, but we are confident for the next few months, and the result is a good sign and gives us courage to believe that 2019 will be a promising year for the industry, "said the President of Open João Sanzovo Neto, in a statement to the press. The organisation said that in January the 35 most consumed products in the supermarkets, which include besides food beer and soft drink, hygiene, beauty, and household cleaners, had growth of price of 3,2% over a year before, passing the 465.57 real, on average.
